Howdy farmers, welcome to the Bumpkin’s Almanac, your daily digest for the #1 Web3 farming game, Sunflower Land. This issue is for Friday, February 28th, 2025.

Yesterday was a Random Event Day, and all farms participating were blessed with a Sunshower! Hopefully you made the most of the double crop speed. Today is yet another Random Event, so keep an eye out for what it might be!

Today we’re going to cover another of the Kingdom Portal minigames, this one called Crops & Chickens. The portal for this game used to be in the lower section of the map near Gambit the Goblin, but has been moved to the combination portal next to the Bumpkin Faction House. This is where Chicken Rescue used to be based, so I didn’t mention it yesterday.

Crops & Chickens looks a little complicated at first, but you’ll get used to it easily. The first thing you’ll notice is the rug, and the little black chicken staring at you. It is the only chicken that will actively follow you, but it can’t get you if you’re on the rug. All the white chickens will march forward in different patterns.

The point of the game is to grab the crops growing in various spots around the map and make it back to the rug to deposit them. The Target Score will be determined by how many crops you’ve deposited, not how many you have in your Inventory, so make sure to get back to the rug regularly. But don’t stand still for too long, or the chickens will get you!

My strategy for this game is to ignore all of the lower-valued crops like the Sunflowers, Pumpkins, and Carrots, and go straight for the Cauliflower. They are worth 100 points apiece, and there are at least twenty of them around the sides of the map. Start in one corner and pick up all of them left to right, then move down to the second row and pick up those too. Then run back to the rug and deposit them as soon as possible. Remember to run forward instead of backtracking, and follow the arrow back to the rug if you get lost.

Most of the time this will get you the goal right away, with over 1000 points, but if you still need more go the other side of the map (up/down if you did left/right) and get those too. If you happen to get close enough to grab the Radish or Parsnip, get them, but don’t worry too much if you can’t.

• Tips for Crops & Chickens

  • All chickens will kill your Bumpkin. Don’t touch any of them.

  • Your Bumpkin can run faster than the chickens. You can move ahead and cut them off if needed.

  • The map wraps around in all four directions. Don’t move backwards to get to the chest, only move forwards.

  • You have 2 minutes per attempt, but unlimited “lives.” You can get hit by a chicken as many times as you need in one attempt.

  • Use a keyboard! Play on a PC or use a Bluetooth keyboard for your phone, as it gives you much greater control.

  • Keep playing after you reach the goal to practice up for days with high requirements. See how high of a score you can get!

Like with Chicken Rescue, you can pay a few SFL to get unlimited attempts for the day if you run out. You can also try to get a really high score and earn extra attempts for the week. Give it a try and share your high score!
