Sixth Day of Winter, and the bot invasion

Howdy farmers, welcome to the Bumpkin’s Almanac, your daily digest for the #1 Web3 farming game, Sunflower Land. This issue is for Saturday, March 8th, 2025.

As predicted, yesterday’s Random Event was the Great Freeze! Any farms not protected by a Thermal Stone had to deal with double the growing time on all crops. Not a good time to be planting that Kale, that’s for sure. As with other crop time-changing events, the penalty lasts until the crop is harvested, so stick with potatoes and cabbage until it’s over.

Speaking of those crops, the prices on both of them have dropped a lot recently, possibly due to the new skill that lets Cabbage be grown with the crop machine, and possibly due to an influx in the number of bots in the game. As with most online games, especially those with the possibility of earning real money, there are people who put in the work and do things right, and those who don’t.

That’s… a lot of Bumpkins in one place

It’s against the terms of the game to play with more than one account per person. If you have two browsers open and are farming basic crops in one and advanced in the other, you’re not playing the right way. Some bad actors take this to the extreme and open legions of windows at the same time, running scripts to automate their games and extract resources to sell at profit. This spoils the economy for those of us who work hard, but fortunately our development team is active and paying attention.

The main Discord server has a channel for honest users to report the Farm IDs of those players who they believe may be bots. All you need to do is click on a player you see anywhere in the Plaza or any of the other zones and then click on the ID# to copy it to your clipboard. Paste it in this channel to notify the devs so they can take action.

This player is very likely a bot, and has probably been banned already

But wait, what about those clusters of players? I’ve seen several of them myself, all moving together in sync, very eerie and obviously cheating. Before yesterday, you could only get the ID of the player on the top of the stack, which was still useful, but the others underneath could still be used. Enter… Select Player!

These players are NOT suspected of being bots, they were just standing together when I took a screenshot.

With this new feature, you can select all of the players that are underneath the are you’re clicking or tapping. This lets you pinpoint the offending Bumpkin and help get them banned. It also has another excellent side effect of making the Gift Giver more available! They don’t have to move around anymore to let players click on them, you just have to tap in their general area and pick them out of the list. Fantastic!

And, if you’re an honest player who finds yourself banned unfairly, don’t worry. Just reach out to the dev team via Discord and someone will be able to help you. Doing the humanity check at the Goblin Retreat definitely helps with this.

That’s all for today! Subscribe via email or RSS to make sure you never miss an issue. Be well, do good work, and farm on.
